Your neighboursare making yousick.
Or keeping you alive.
Where we live decides how we live.
How healthy we are. How lonely. How long we last. I measure it. Then I do something about it.
Why now
The world isrunning outof people.
Not today. But the curve is bending. The UN expects the global population to peak this century and then fall. Japan, China and much of Europe are already shrinking.
Fewer people. More of them on the move. Away from flooded coasts. Away from burning summers. Away from men who like statues of themselves.
When people get scarce, the places that keep them win. The rest empty out.
How we live is about to matter more than ever. Almost nobody measures it. So I started.
Who I am
I'm Martin Elneff. I used to build healthcare solutions for assisted living. I learned something that never makes it into a care plan: people don't only fade from illness. They fade from being alone.
So in 2018 I started Heynabo. Today 257 communities and 24,000 residents use it to do something radical. Know who lives next door.
I gave the ideaa name.Nabo-nomics.
Nabo-nomics
Nabo-nomics (from Danish nabo, neighbour) is the study of how the places we live shape our health, wellbeing and quality of life, and how to measure and improve it.
Real estate countssquare metres.
I count something else: whether you'd knock on your neighbour's door at 2 a.m. Only one of those numbers predicts whether you'll stay. It isn't the square metres.
Hire me
- Consulting. You build or own housing. You think community is a nice-to-have. I'll show you the spreadsheet where it isn't.
- Speaking.I'll tell your audience their homes are lying to them. Then I'll show them the data.
- Heynabo. For associations and properties that want residents who talk to each other, not just about each other.
Work
- Heynabo. The platform. Eight years of watching neighbours turn into people.
- Nabo-nomics Dashboard.Shows owners why residents stay, and what a courtyard barbecue is actually worth.
- A stealth project, yet to be defined.
- Bored Room.Housing association boards run on volunteer hours, Facebook groups and a binder from 2009. This fixes that.
Thinking
Chapters from a book about belonging. Notes on Ostrom. Arguments I'm still losing.
